Well...if you were at IR208 2K12, you would have seen the cart in action.
If not, here is what was keeping me up for a good 2 weeks in a row.
Got the front suspension done and welded up, re-welded the rear end and added panels and bars to mount everything else up.
Sanded down to metal the frame and bedlinered it.
Got all the air lines setup and switches for front and back up/down. Plus put a switch on the compressor so i can turn it on or off.
Was going to add a 36 volt to 12 volt reducer to the system, but the compressor needs too much power....so I had to hook up a smaller stereo battery to handle all the electronics...which is fine...that was the plan down the road for the stereo setup anyways....so this way it's already wired for me and I can easily swap a new bigger battery in there when needed.
This thing is pretty sick, love to roll around and drop the rear end and cruise.
I need to swap out the rear bags to some canisters or something...as the shocks just don't lift like they should.
Shout out to Mr. Joe Popper for knocking this bish out the park on the fabrication..couldn't have done this without his help.
After a long hiatus, she's finally back.
BaggedXelem got some attention this weekend.
Front suspension is DONE......well at least all the metal work.
She sits nice and level now.
Next up is redoing some structural problems in the rear, beauty welding, then we can start mounting the pump, tank and run all the air lines.
My goal on this was the JUST get the front bags on...before IR208....well now that THAT is done 2 days into the project starting back up....looks like she'll be fully running on her own air by the show......I'm gonna add full re-paint of the body in there to make it interesting.
Can you say GRINDER Party!!! Bring your angle grinders and eye protection!
Got the rear shocks figured out, and after some discussion, I'll be ordering a bunch of 4-line bushings and pipe...and we'll be doing away with the leaf system.
So for now...we at least know how low...and HIGH this thing will go in the rear.
Till then!
Well, I had an hour to start un-bolting things and this is what I came up with.
Removed the bottom 3 supports on the leaf and put it back on.
Seems like it worked ok as far as letting me know where my limits are before I start welding things in place. Also....Gonna have to cut some fenders up front (more than likely in the rear.....just need to remove the front covers and everything to see where I'm at)
Not quite as low as it can go...but I'd be happy with the front being where it is, and the rear being level...then hit the bags and BAM....8"s
Back to the drawing board
Name is still in the works, but basically what we have here is a Melex (get it....Melex backwards is Xelem......ugh)
It was a freebie cart, so I took it without thinking twice....in hindesight, Melex is a rare cart, so noone has parts for ANYTHING...so everything is custom. Not a problem.
So far, I've cleaned out the entire rear of the cart, stripped it and gutted it.
Motor has been unbolted and shipped off to a company that will make the beast go faster. Stock speed is around 10-12.....I'm torn between minor upgrades to go 25 or crazy overhaul to go 45....and possibly have a fire hazard....so we'll see.
Next up is to figure out how to bag this bad boy. Never done an air ride suspension, and since this one is a one-off build, I should learn lots.
Till next time!!
