So this build has been an on-going project.
Customer had a local shop do most of the work, but after many failed attempts, the system still isn't working 100%.
Horrible alternator whine and another whine that's not caused by the engine. Possibly the DVD players fault, but that'll be gone here soon (why i'm turning this into a projet).
Today's bill:
Sound deaden the doors to the MAX and install some grounding straps to attempt to supress the noise.
These doors are SOLID!
Cheers
The Vanagon is back...ready to step it up in the sound department.
Removing the old, cracked 4" speakers, and putting in some 5 1/4" Memphis Audio Power Reference Component speakers.....cutting the existing door panel to put the woofer in and placing the tweeter in the stock speaker location.
I offset the tweeter inside the existing 'grill' because the speaker, from stock, is partially blocked by the dash...so this way the driver gets a clean, unblocked path from the tweeter to his ear.
Doors also got a good layer of sound deadening to help with the road noise.
Vanagon sounded MUCH better than before....next is a newer deck with hidden iPod controls and better subwoofer settings.
Got alot of sound deadening done this weekend.
Used about 4 cans of spray foam to make sure every little nook and cranny would be filled.
Ceiling is done......recieved 2 layers of deadener, along with some foam to fill any holes I couldn't get to, as well as 6" compressible insulation between the frame rails so it won't lose too much heat/cold......Ceiling is bulletproof now!
Rear doors got some attention as well, even though they don't have speakers in them, it's a good idea to get them, as they will rattle as well.
Rear decklid got it's first layer down, and I'll put more on once the speakers go in.
Got the dome lights reqired to fit two PCB boards...now we're really bright
Next up is the trunk and trunk lid
