So, here are a few photos of Evo X finished....well, for Trax Customs anyways. Now it's back to New York, where the turbo system will be installed! So till then!
Well, I'm a fabricator.....not a photographer...but I do my best.

So, I've fabricated a trim ring to cover up the screws on the woofer. Yes, this was an after thought, but, it's something the owner suggested, which, after seeing it, is going to look good.
The red in the trunk is the only red THERE, but if you tilt your head over and compare the rims to the woofer....BAM...then you'll get it. Finished painting the ring so now I just have to wait till I can get the Evo again! Till then Got some free time to finish the door pods up. Owner has been rocking them for a few weeks, and I've been waiting on decals for the plexi. Just a few more days and this car will represent Trax Customs!
Took the door apart, trimmmed some plastic, wired up the LED strips and cleaned the glass. Also, has some neons laying around, so I rewired the trunk lights with them.....might switch those to LED strips as well....we'll see. Cheers Swapped amps on Project Evo X last night (wierd whining coming from 4 channel amp and Mono block amp blew). Also started fabricating the sub trim panel, so that will be ready to paint soon
New Lights came in for Project HondaLights. Just waiting on Projectors and everything else. So far the plan is to retrofit projectors in the stock low beam portion of the lights, but there are some ideas floating around for the high beam section.....more to come Started figuring out the finishing touches on Project Evo X.....red lettering on the side of the vehicle, red lettering on the rear trunk, possible white logo on rear window and black logo's on the door pods. Also, going to make a red ring to hide the screws on the woofer, as well as mold a logo for Trax into it, and paint that red....so it will match the rims.
Going to start Project Colorado tonight, need to get that one out the door so I can move on to Project Brew-Haul stage 2. Cheers I say complete, because Kip (owner) is here for a month, and I've put off some things to get his feedback, and will finish everything up before he goes back to New York.
So here are some final shots....for now!! Cut the 1/4" and 3/4" plexi glass tonight....makes me want to have an Almond Joy
Also, got the front radar reciever and 2 front jammers installed and snaked back to the control module! Also, cut the arm rest divider out, so you can see the subwoofer magnet through the rear seats! Stayed up late finishing up the Radar installation. Got the front main radar mounted, as well as the two laser jammers, routed all wires carefully through engine bay and into the cabin.
Plugged the seat's airbag back in, turn it on and had a smile when everything worked right and responded correctly. That radar is sick. Also, cut out plexi windows for the subbox and door pods, as well as finished up the tweeter pods and final coat on the subwoofer box. That being said, it's INSTALL night tonight. Everything goes in and is fired up. Carpeting everything and going through last minute install stuff. Expect alot of pics tonight! Well, it was back to only 4 hours of work able to perform so here is what I got done:
Shaped the subbox, filled the pinholes on it and shot 3 coats of textured paint on it. One final coat of textured paint on the door pods, they are ready to be installed. Smoothed out the tweeter cups, filled the pinholes, now just need to sand them down and shoot them. Installed the Bluetooth mic, Radar Display, Radar LED, Radar Control Module and the USB update HUB. Ready for tomorrow Well.....got alot done today....now all that needs to be done is to wire up the 3 radar detector jammers and shifters, mount all the other components of the radar system, mount the doors, finish the subbox and finish the rear boot install...then cut plexi.....then wire everything up....ugh!!!
Here we go! Cheers! Today, for the first time, was my first actual full day I was out in the shop.....kind of crazy to think of it like that, but that's why it's been taking forever.....when you work a full 40 at the main gig, then come home and get motivated to go out in the shop...you only have 3-4 hours of actual work a night.....doesn't amount to much.
So anyways...here we go! Got the subbox in with the beautry panels, and they go in and out without a problem....so I'm not going to do an access panel for the windshield fluid or battery, since it will only take one screw and that will all come out. Also, put a layer of body filler on the subbox and will attack that tomorrow! Installed the backup camera today, as well as the rear raday jammer, so we're good back there. Got the backup camera's module all wired up and hidden away, made sure to leave the box somewhere you can get to, just in case. Also installed the antennas for the GPS on the Alpine DVD player as well as the Escort 9500ci radar detector. First photo shows you how I get motivated.....only 4 days left :S :S :S Cheers! The Dremel and I were best friend tonight...cutting and sanding, until we could almost not see the Evo....soo much dust!
Trimmed the sub box, added one little layer on the outer tim piece. Trimmed the door pods, and layed down a first coat of Rage Extreme......might I say, for those of you that know, and those that dont......Rage Extreme is by for WORTH every extra penny.......it's self leveling body filler.....no pin-holes, no nothing...just an amazing finish, and the green stage!! Rediculous!! After that...got my Cheese Grater on and had a good ol' time! Cheers! Got 3 layers down, trimmed up the sides and cut the access holes for the inside stuff....and put a layer on the inside.....should be good to go for body filler tomorrow.
Knocked out the door pods tonight...well, at least the final construction and first layer of resin.
Cut out the plexi glass holder/trim piece, glued everything into place, stretch some t-shirt material over the pods, trimmed the sides down, bolted them up to the door panels so they won't warp and BAM....resin time! Cheers! Figured out the best way to mount these monster Arc 6000 speakers....T-Nuts
Pre-drilled, secured and glued the T-Nuts to the speaker baffle....these aren't going anywhere. After that, put another layer of glass on the subbox, inside and out....I think after one more layer, I can FINALLY start to shape this thing! Cheers Was busy tonight, but didn't take any pics (sorry Kip).
Threw down some Kitty Hair on the box to fill some low spots...then put another layer of glass on the outside of the box. Started on the door pods....get the flush mount ring for the Arc Audio 6000's cut out and is drying currently....going to the hardware store today to get some T-Nuts for that, then I'll cut out the Plexi windo and plexi holder, glue those down, and hopefully get some fleece on them tonight.....too many things to do, too little time!! Started construction on the subwoofer box....this one is gonna be something I don't think I've seen before.....going to be a pretty cool shape from looking at it in the trunk, but also, as you can see by the 'tombstone' shape in the rear, will have a plexiglas window that will show off the magnet, but you'll only be able to see it from inside the cab, looking through the rear seat center arm rest opening....pretty trick!!
Check it! Been working like a busy litte bee lately, but it seems in my mad dash to complete this project, that I haven't stopped to take pics of the build process......so I'll save those for finished pics.
So far here is what I've done: Finished construction on the box, fleeced it, 2 coats of resin (inside and out), modified beauty panels, custom mounted the bass knob, and fished more wires into the dash. Tonight? Glass, glass, glass away on the sub box. I'll start on the door pods as well, now that I've finalized the shape of everything. Also, will be bolting up the DVD player and making sure everything is functional. On to the next one! Also, will be bolting up the DVD player and making sure everything is functional. On to the next one! Was unusually cold in the garage tonight, so the fiberglass took FOREVER to kick....I even mixed it at 5% MEKP...oh well. Sub box base is done and ready for layout, threw some filler on the beauty panels and will sand them lightly before I put them back in for test fit.
Sub box building tomorrow! Removed the stock Rockford Fosgate amplifier under the driver seat and replaced that with a custom panel to house the escort radar system main hub. Hide all the wires that will power that, now, as you can see, all those little ports need to be filled....so that will be next!
You can see the stock amp is no match for what we're putting in the Evo...should be enough to make some noise! Cut out some 3/4" MDF and routed the edges so that it can sit flush inside the mold.....placed everything in the Evo, made sure it was level, then applied some glass and fiberglass strands to bond the wood to the wheel well mold.....once this dries, then I can pull it, fill the voids and glass a few layers and then I can start final construction on the subwoofer box. Got alot done today....thanks to my new space heater....it's crazy how much 10 degrees warmer can make you motivated to stay out in the shop!
Cut out the beauty panel and glassed the backside for stability. Also, trimmed up the wheel well mold and put a few more layers on the side to beef them up....tomorrow we'll be making a base for the rest of the construction to happen. Started on the wiring for the DVD player.....get the main harness wired in, auxillary wires wired up for accessories, mounted the Bluetooth module, and wired up the Satellite radio modules. The Evo already had Sirius in it, and I was hoping to keep the factory installed antenna...well, so far so good. Was able to locate and remove the factory Sirius tuner box, then I fabricated my own direct replacement panel, installed the two Sirius components, and put everything back into the car....looks stock and doesn't lose any much needed space. Also, figured out where I'm going to mount the Escort display as well as the bluetooth mic...but that's for another day! Oh, and last but not least....got the DVD player mounted to the factory brackets, but I was tired, and wanted to leave the owner drooling over the last pic....cause he wants to see it mounted!!! HA Wow...this weather is really slowing down the process on this badboy.
First pic....a warm and toasty 45 degrees out in the shop...it's this way because I have both doors cracked open so the fiberglass fumes can excape. Oh well....one to glassing and grinding!! Got a few more layers on the beauty panel, that will be ready to come out tomorrow or after turkey day. Trimmed up the trunk mold and added a few more layers on the sides to beef them up..almost ready for final assembly and mock up of that too. End temp? 41.....allllmost freezing. Cheers...brrrrr Pulled all the molds and got them trimmed up and ready to go.
Taped off the sides and made a beauty panel, that will replace the stock panel that hid the battery and washer fluid resevoir. Glassed the sides to match existing contours and now we just have a few more layers to go, then we'll be good to go there. Also, cleaned up the door panels and get them ready to cut and fit the new speakers on them as well. |
