Not much here...just showing the 'Owl Eyes'
Once I was done baking open Project Colorado's headlights, I moved on to the more important lamps....as I'm starting and completing these headlights this week.
Not much here...just showing the 'Owl Eyes'

Started Project Colorado tonight.....and by started, I mean I baked and seperated the headlight housings so I could test fit and see which projector will fit correctly in the small housings. Snapped some shots for the owner, and sent them his way.
Project should officially start in a few weeks. Cheers!! Had a bit of time to work on the Evo tonight.
Finished up the rear for now. Put some deadening on the rear wheel well. It's covered by the seat, so it muffles the sound, but you can tell it's a weak spot when you're driving without the rear seats; so I put just enough to quite down the wheels. Started on the drivers door as well. Pulled the panel and all the stock sound deadening and water proofer off. Lined the inside (outside) door panel, ran some 12 ga speaker wire through the stock loom (always a joy), made a few ABS panels to cover the big openings, then covered everything with sound deadening again. It's a loooooong process, but someone's gotta do it...and in the end, it will sound amazing in there!! Finished up the sound deadening on the rear doors
Ran new speaker wire in through the boots and made them look like they were supposed to be there. Fabricated some new 1" speaker spacers out of wood. After cutting them, I pre-drilled holes for mounting the speakers as well as the spacers to the doors. Now they are in a resin bath overnight, so they become stronger and won't crack over time. Even though I spent 2 hours stuffed inside the trunk, it still doesn't look like I got much done. But, I did. Entire right side of the trunk is good to go. There is alot of double walls, and covering front and back of them, even places I can't see....takes alot out of ya!
Oh well, sound deadening is the worse job to do, but in the end, it's all worth it!! Oh, and as you can see, my shop foreman didn't help much!! Finished up Project NetherSolsti this evening. Everything went smoothly; now all I can hope is that shipping to the Netherlands will go as smoothly. Here is a teaser, but go on over to our 2010 Projects Page to look at all the photos!
Halo's came in.
.5cm off. That's a big difference when you're working with two different products that need to come together. Ordered 105mm Halos instead of the 100mm ones I originally ordered. So, anyone want 100mm Halos for their whip? Let me know....I have a set with ballasts! Trax Customs is now an official installer on Car Audio and Electronics Magazine Online.
This site/magazine has been around for sometime now, and this is the go-to place for all your car audio and electronic needs, how-to's and much more. It's an honor to be up on there site, and we'll hopefully see the benefits from it soon! http://caraudiomag.com/installers_directory?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=installers_directory So I guess all I needed to do was actually open the door to the Evo last night to get some ideas rolling again. I've been so busy lately that I haven't even had time to think about Project Evo....just see it everyday I head off to work...that's about it. So last night, I poked my head inside the cabin for about 30 seconds and BOOM.....I already had ideas that needed to go on paper and other ideas to work out in my mind. Custom fiberglass door pods; front and back, with backlit LED/Plexi windows showing off brands and logos. That's about as far as I got, but the trunk is a whole other monster. I know what needs to be done, just need to figure out where to put everything...small trunk, too many stock access panels, and not enough room to put everything....we'll figure it out. Stay tuned for more updates!
My canvas: Front Doors Rear Doors Was sick this weekend, so I didn't get much done. Hooked up a customer on his old Alpine deck. He wanted an Aux input on his Alpine, and had been using an FM Modulator. He didn't know about the Ai-net port that's on the backside of the deck, so I hooked it up for him and he was happy as a clam. Yet, this also describes how I dislike Apple so much. Everything is iPod based (which is nice if you're one of the billion iPod fans) but for everyone else, all you can do in this market is to plug in your mini-jack headphone plug into an aux input port and JUST play music. With iPod specific decks, it will charge your iPod and display the music tracks over the deck's display.....pretty nice, if you like iPod. What about Blackberry or Droid owners? They have cool phones too, with plenty of music on them. Oh well, Apple is doing their job at cornering the market. At least there is still satellite radio and bluetooth out there for all other phone owners. Oh, and Pioneer is starting to introduce Pandora integration into their new decks...so all other music fans that love Pandora will not be able to access their playlists/channels IN their cars......take that Apple!
Started planning Project Evo tonight. Figured out a few locations for the amps, layout in the trunk and areas where all the gadgets and gizmo's will go. Trying to stuff a DVD player with nagivation, Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, and iPod hookups into a dash and throughout the car. Plus the addition of all the components for the high-end radar detector. Also, the amps and everything need a home in the rear! I think some metal is going to be in order!
Finished up Arc Yoda last night. Swapped out the old Hifonic amp to a new XXD Digital Mono amp, and wired the subs (which we put in a new, bigger box) to 1 ohm, so they are both seeing the full potential. System sounds great, footprint of the amps are way smaller than what he had before, and they look great too. All in all, the customer is happy, and I'm sure we'll be seeing him back for more.
Arc Amps Installed Arc Amps Lit up The last of the parts came in yesterday, so tonight I'll be finishing up the Arc Yoda. Loading the woofers in a bigger, better box. Installing an XXD mono amp to supply the woofers the power they crave. Installing crossovers and tweeters with the rear speakers. Should do the job! Stay tuned!
Finally got some free time, so I decided to open up the taillights on Project One-Off Solsti. Only too about an hour to get them open; alot more time consuming than opening headlights, but this way it won't melt the plastic on the taillights, since they are easily meltable. Placed the LED board I had in mind, into the assembly and they were much brighter than expected, but since they didn't reflect off the stock taillights assembly, the stock bulb is brighter ONLY where it counts: right center in the middle, where it was designed. Back to the drawing board as far as how to lay out a new LED board and integrate the PWM into it. Keep checking back for updates.
Everything for project Evo has arrived. All the fiberglass material, wires, DVD player with navigation, Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, backup camera. 1000 watt amp, 400 watt 4 channel amp, 12" crazy subwoofer, sound deadening to make sure nothing rattles. This is going to be a gnarly build; now that everything is here, guess I should be working and not typing!
Got a sweet JVC touchscreen DVD player for Matt in the mail today. Now in his Chevy he'll have DVD playback, Radio, CD, iPod and access to multiple different add-ons down the road! Arc Audio had a few products on backorder, and the XXD 1500 was one of them. Chad was a man of his word and got it shipped out this morning for me. Great company, great product, and even greater service!
Rags got the custom light bar fab'd up yesterday. We're doing 10 of the smallest and brightest LEDs you can put underwater without a heatsink! These little guys should brighten up the water at night (maybe even during the day). Going to do a test fit tonight and final wiring. Then look out for pics soon. Nothing car related to post. Hung a 27" Samsung LCD in the master bedroom last night. Power and cable were already pre-ran while house was a skeleton; so that made it easier. Just had to run Audio/Visual wires for a DVD player. Used a low-profile wall mount that has a safety lock on it so the TV won't fall. All-in-all it looked good, got it up off the floor and hides all the wires! Mission Accomplished....without Tom Cruise!
Ordered an Arc Audio XXD1500 mono block amp to match the XXD4080 4 channel amp that we put in the Yoda the first round. This should cut down the space taken up by the big Hifonics amp that was installed. Also, it will match the existing Arc Audio amp, and look much better since it'll be matched. Also, installing new tweets in the rear as well. New, bigger box for the Arc Audio XXD 10's...should do the trick!
Had an older Toyota in today.
Old Kenwood DVD player install with HD Radio upgrade, new speakers all around (Arc Audio), Arc Audio XXD 4080 4 channel amp to push the new speakers. Used his old Hifonic amp to push the new dual 10" XXD subs. Next phase is getting him a better amp (Arc Audio XXD mono block amp) as well as building him a new box to give the 10's more air. Check it out Everything is ordered and on it's way for phase one of Project Evo.
Alpine DVD player with built in Navigation, Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, and Backup Camera. Arc Audio Front and Rear Component Speakers all being powered by an Arc Audio KS 4 channel amp. Arc Audio Flatline 12" woofer being pushed by an Arc Audio 1000 watt mono amp. Plenty of fiberglass on it's way as well as all the cables and misc parts to put this thing together. Should be a good sounding system to compliment the fast car. Being one of Boise's top customization shops has it's perks; as well as it's ups and downs, but today was a good one. We've been really busy in the shop and just finished up a few projects, so today I just chilled. Tweaked a little bit on Project Melex and starred at Project Solsti's door panels for some much needed inspiration. Played with the shop gaurd dog till he was too tired then called it a night.
Sometimes the best thing you CAN do is just walk away from something and come back another day, recharged and ready to go! Basically, I'm saying......Stayed tuned for some good updates! |
