This was a fun one...been on my list for a LOOOONG time.
Basically started with some speakers I pulled out of Project Evo X....Rockford Fosgate 6.5" coaxial doors. Now, I could have saved a BUNCH of time by switching to different speakers, but these were free and sounded great when powered by the amp I selected....which was $40 from my supplier. The problem with the speakers is that they had a ridiculous mounting system (twist on, instead of bolt on). So I modified how it mounted and we're good...only problem is that it's a 1.75" tall speaker once mounted.....problem solved.
Once I got everything fabricated, it was time to test fit it on a shelf that was in the living room (no way was I going to fabricate this on a ladder while straining my neck. Note to self: All interior corners in a house are NOT created equal....or perfect 90 degree corners.
Found a sweet Jack Daniels shirt and used that for the form....added two layers of glass....few of body filler and we were getting closer.
Never have I done a flush ring before...so this is how it usually happens (I gotta do it on my own things first)....so we gave it a shot....turned out damn good.
Once the textured paint dried, I did two coats of the exact interior paint....pre-drilled holes and ran wire throughout the bathroom.
Once everything was dry, mounted them to the ceiling and BAM....we have sound.
Overall thoughts? They sound 'OK'....but what can I say..they are OEM car speakers, in small pods. They have plenty of power....but that's why I got the 4 channel amp. I'll be taking the front woofers from the Evo X and making those into a mid/sub bass system I'll mount under the sink...should provide some decent low end and make the bathroom sound better than anyone's bathroom really should!
