Client brought in his 2008 Maserati Granturismo for some suspension and audio overhauls.
First off....we lowered/raised the car a bit. The factory suspension, as one might assume, is pretty gnarly.....so it's adjustable factory coil-overs allows us to fine tune the ride height....so we lowered the rear a bit and leveled out the front to fit his massive 22" wheels/tires.
Then his factory Bose subwoofer wasn't getting the job done...so he insisted that we make an aftermarket woofer fit and sound good.....way easier said than done. I'm always up for the task, but 9/10 times I've never been happy with fitting an aftermarket sub into a factory sub location/box.....it's just never enough.
This is case-in-point......the factory Bose woofer location is 3.5" above the fuel cell in the rear....so mounting depth is an issue.....as well as there really isn't a "box" to work with....just a shelf with a large hole cut out of it.....so not only does this shallow mount woofer need to clear the ridiculously shallow mounting location, it needs to be free-air as well...
So I attacked it with some noise reduction material, attempting to seal everything up I could....then made a speaker adapter to go from the factory 10" size to the Pioneer 8" shallow (I really wanted to use the 10" but without cutting metal and possibly damaging the fuel cell, it just wasn't going to fit).
All said and done, the bass is noticeably better....but the customer will definitely be back for a custom rear enclosure setup....as I know this isn't what he was expecting.
