This one wasn't a massively long build....but just one I wanted to make something unique that hasn't been done before but didn't want to rush anything.
Here is what I crammed into these:
Morimoto Pencil-Beam LED Pods
Morimoto 35w 5500k Bulb Upgrade
Tri-RGB Demon Eye Accent Lighting
3-zone Switchback LED Strips
Smoked Diffusor Strips
Started with some EVO-X headlights that already had HID Projectors from the factory and then started cutting everything out of them.
First was to fit in that Morimoto LED pod....even though it's very small....it was still too large to fit where I wanted it to go....so the old trusty dremel and I went to work.
These aren't meant to supply a TON of light output....but improve the field of vision while driving. These are angled perfectly to provide at least 30-40% more light to the sides of the vehicle....so for cornering purposes...and since they are LEDs...they carry lights for quite a ways.....but since they are 'pencil beams' there is no worry of blinding on-coming drivers.....they are set below the OEM cutoff.
Next up I opened up the LED pods and barely had room to fit a few RGB leds in there for Demon eyes....then I repeated the process on the OEM Projectors as well as the mini side light on the EVO housings.
After that came the fun 'custom' part......integrating the Switchback strips into the EVO housings. I'd had an idea of what I wanted done....but not sure how it'd come out...so I just started cutting and molding until I got it to a paintable stage then my buddy Ryan took over and make them look seamlessly blended into the panel. He first painted them black and then ran over them a few times with clear coat to get those lenses to stay clear and look 3-dimensional when off.
This was an interesting process to get these molded in AND keep the diffusors sturdy while jutting out from their shroud....but the look is exactly what the owner and I thought they should look like....so we're both stoked with how they came out. After paint, I was able to secure the LEDs behind the strips without wires and then started wiring up the Diode Dynamics sequential modules and figuring out how to make all of these new gadgets work with the OEM circuits.
Once it was all said and done and sealed up...the only extra wire outside of the housing NOT plugged into the OEM headlight connector was the RGB Demon Eyes...which will be controlled via a wireless remote control and possibly a smart phone.
These lights will finish off an already great looking car by getting rid of all the chrome of the old headlights....but will no provide with some epic night time shots!
Look out for more shots of these ON the car once the client receives them in the mail!
