Cut out the plexi glass holder/trim piece, glued everything into place, stretch some t-shirt material over the pods, trimmed the sides down, bolted them up to the door panels so they won't warp and BAM....resin time!
Cheers!
Knocked out the door pods tonight...well, at least the final construction and first layer of resin.

Start Project Brew-Haul today...it was cold, and as the first two pics show, this is how we do it in Idaho...outside installs (too tall to fit into shop), snow and portable radiant heater!!!!
Got the deck pre-wired for the 4 channel amp that will eventually go in, deck all wired up and ready to rock with iPod and Aux inputs. Also for phase 2 of the project, got the 4 guage power wired snaked through the cab and into the rear for easy access down the road. Had to fab up some custom speaker plates to block off the already modified doors (6x9s), coated them in bed liner, then finished up the install with temporarily mounting the tweeters in the mirror covers. Will more than likely glass these into place when it gets warmer. Next up? 4 channel amp and mono block amp install on a custom amp rack. Custom Center console that will house a 10" Memphis Audio Power Reference Subwoofer...should do the trick!! Cheers!! This was a pretty cool project.
Client wanted to do something special for her husband.....so with the help of his best friend (and past client of Trax Customs) we picked out the monster Memphis Car Audio C3 12" subwoofer in a sealed Memphis box, being powered by an existing Polk Momo 500 watt 2 channel amplifier the customer already had and a 4 ga Memphis amplifier kit to supply the power. Kenwood deck up front with Aux input. After all was said and done, the client placed a bow on the dash, with her husbands favorite song in the CD player, with a note that says "TURN IT UP LOUD"!!! What a gift!! Cheers!! Started construction on the subwoofer box....this one is gonna be something I don't think I've seen before.....going to be a pretty cool shape from looking at it in the trunk, but also, as you can see by the 'tombstone' shape in the rear, will have a plexiglas window that will show off the magnet, but you'll only be able to see it from inside the cab, looking through the rear seat center arm rest opening....pretty trick!!
Check it! Been working like a busy litte bee lately, but it seems in my mad dash to complete this project, that I haven't stopped to take pics of the build process......so I'll save those for finished pics.
So far here is what I've done: Finished construction on the box, fleeced it, 2 coats of resin (inside and out), modified beauty panels, custom mounted the bass knob, and fished more wires into the dash. Tonight? Glass, glass, glass away on the sub box. I'll start on the door pods as well, now that I've finalized the shape of everything. Also, will be bolting up the DVD player and making sure everything is functional. On to the next one! Got alot done today....thanks to my new space heater....it's crazy how much 10 degrees warmer can make you motivated to stay out in the shop!
Cut out the beauty panel and glassed the backside for stability. Also, trimmed up the wheel well mold and put a few more layers on the side to beef them up....tomorrow we'll be making a base for the rest of the construction to happen. Started on the wiring for the DVD player.....get the main harness wired in, auxillary wires wired up for accessories, mounted the Bluetooth module, and wired up the Satellite radio modules. The Evo already had Sirius in it, and I was hoping to keep the factory installed antenna...well, so far so good. Was able to locate and remove the factory Sirius tuner box, then I fabricated my own direct replacement panel, installed the two Sirius components, and put everything back into the car....looks stock and doesn't lose any much needed space. Also, figured out where I'm going to mount the Escort display as well as the bluetooth mic...but that's for another day! Oh, and last but not least....got the DVD player mounted to the factory brackets, but I was tired, and wanted to leave the owner drooling over the last pic....cause he wants to see it mounted!!! HA Wow...this weather is really slowing down the process on this badboy.
First pic....a warm and toasty 45 degrees out in the shop...it's this way because I have both doors cracked open so the fiberglass fumes can excape. Oh well....one to glassing and grinding!! Got a few more layers on the beauty panel, that will be ready to come out tomorrow or after turkey day. Trimmed up the trunk mold and added a few more layers on the sides to beef them up..almost ready for final assembly and mock up of that too. End temp? 41.....allllmost freezing. Cheers...brrrrr Did a mobile install tonight....integrated a Sound Ordenance 8" powered woofer into a stock JBL system on a 91 Ford Explorer. I'm still very impressed with how these little guys sound, and at only $150 for the subwoofer/amp combo...the price can not be beat!
Here's a pic of my car LOADED to the top....and the cool LEDs that come on when your sub turns on! Parents brought me a bunch of stuff from the old house I lived in back in high school...dug deep and found some fiberglass mat.....the same roll I started using when I was teaching myself fiberglass....blast from the past for sure!!! So I threw two layers on and let them dry overnight.
Next.....drill holes for the T-Nuts, glass those in, then pop the mold for construction! Also, I can now pop the mold for the subwoofer box and trim that up, and start construction on that badboy!! Still in the works with the owner, but here is an upcoming project.
The Brewforia BrewMobile!! Deck with iPod controls, aux inputs, and HD radio. Component speakers custom installed Custom center console subwoofer box, with memphis audio subwoofer and amp. Should be a good one!!! Went to the hardware store to grab some goodies.....tape, wooden dowels and metal rods.
A few layers later, we are ready to pop out the mold....tomorrow anyways....starting to get cold and need to let that puppy sit overnight. Also, started on the doors....get everything taped up, marked up, and one layer of glass down on that. Got a call from a father who tried to install a system for his son's birthday. Jeep Liberty...which means Infinity system. So, I hurried over after work, put his Sound Ordenance speakers, power 8" woofer (that hit by the way) and Kenwood CD player in.
Not bad for a few hours job. Didn't have much time last night with the emergency install that I had to go mobile and get done.
Got 2 layers of 1.5oz mat down....all bubbles rolled out and now she's ready for some 3 oz mat. tapped off the doors and was ready to start on them as well...but....FAIL.....ran out of masking tape, so tomorrow I will start on the doors. Cheers Oh ya.......iiiiiit's back!
Actually, headlights FINALLY were delivered to Rube, and he had time to install them...pics don't show Halo's lit up, but you know what they look like. Another satisfied customer. This was a fun project, glad Trax Customs could help out and international friend! Cheers So ya, like the title says.....blood, sweat and tears we're put into the Evo tonight.................as much as could be dripped on it in 5 minutes! That's all the time I had to work on it....lame.. Oh well, she's finally ready for some glass!
Cheers Almost done....took 4 looooong hours to get the shrouds just right, wired up and everything set. Now just to wait overnight for adhesives to set up then we'll seal the headlights and ship them out!
Radioactive symbol came out pretty good....could have used an extra coat of black base paint, as the halo's shine through JUST a hair...but i think they get the point across! Cheers So, got the trunk taped off and ready for some resin, but I need more supplies. Tin Foil is on top of the list, then we'll be ready to go!!!
Also, started thinking about the other parts of the car that are fiberglass (door panels) and so I attempted to tap those off...well, I need wax and adhesive remover, as SOMEONE has been Armor-All'ing their doors, so tap won't stick. So tomorrow I'll run to the store and pick up the necessary cooking supplies to start glass!! Cheers Got the projectors mounted up and they are drying overnight.
Shrouds are prep'd and painted....drying overnight as well. All that's left to do is mount everything up and do everything else! Cheers Forwarded this to our graphic design/screen printing guru....haha, I don't even know if she knows that's what we're calling her yet!
I'll hopefullly have this printing out in a few days...pretty cool design for about 10 minutes on Photochop!! Finished up the front passengers door with even more sound deadening.....so that means, for now...I'm finally done with this stuff! Woot Woot!
Also, pulled the dash, cause I know the owner is getting a little antsy over there in Dirka Land to see his dash removed.....so there....removed! Good thing, I can now steal up to 3 babies and hide them in this dash!! There is a BUNCH of room behind that Rockford radio! Once I was done baking open Project Colorado's headlights, I moved on to the more important lamps....as I'm starting and completing these headlights this week.
Not much here...just showing the 'Owl Eyes' Started Project Colorado tonight.....and by started, I mean I baked and seperated the headlight housings so I could test fit and see which projector will fit correctly in the small housings. Snapped some shots for the owner, and sent them his way.
Project should officially start in a few weeks. Cheers!! Had a bit of time to work on the Evo tonight.
Finished up the rear for now. Put some deadening on the rear wheel well. It's covered by the seat, so it muffles the sound, but you can tell it's a weak spot when you're driving without the rear seats; so I put just enough to quite down the wheels. Started on the drivers door as well. Pulled the panel and all the stock sound deadening and water proofer off. Lined the inside (outside) door panel, ran some 12 ga speaker wire through the stock loom (always a joy), made a few ABS panels to cover the big openings, then covered everything with sound deadening again. It's a loooooong process, but someone's gotta do it...and in the end, it will sound amazing in there!! |
