This thing has seen better days, but it's just what they needed.....except for the sound.
Stock radio was going quickly, only played front left speaker, which was blown. All other speakers were barely usable, but they didn't sound good.
Replaced the headunit with a Sony unit with ipod controls.
Replaced the rear speakers with some Quantum Audio 5.25" coaxials.
Replaced the front speakers with some Quantum Audio 4" coaxials.
Every single piece of this install was difficult, it seems everything was rusted or over installed from the factory.
The deck wasn't too bad, had to make my own custom face plate....no biggie.
The front speakers were installed in a metal dash, and the bolts rusted in place. Last resort was the CUT the bolts out, which left gnarly holes where they used to be.
Covered the stock dash panels in a speaker grill cloth and all was normal again.
The rear speakers came in a ported speaker enclosure and the screws that held the covers in place were completely smooth and rounded....I have no idea how Ford even screwed these badboys in. Once I got them out, the speakers were mounted from the back side of the enclosure, which was then sealed permanently with glue and plastic......Ford was confident that these would not need to be fixed. So I cut the speakers out and installed the QA speakers like a boss.
This system was a MUCH needed upgrade and the sound was very good.
